Instalação de Eletrofusão PPR: 8 Verificações que Evitam uma Junta Falhada

Lista de Verificação de Cotação de Tubos PPR: O Que Enviar para uma Cotação Precisa

Resposta Rápida

PPR electrofusion installation is decided before the controller starts. The pipe end, insertion mark, scraped band and clamp set the outcome. Use eight checks: fitting identity, square cut, insertion depth, full-zone scrape, clean dry surface, stress-free alignment, fitting-specific parameters and full cooling. DESO publishes a PPR fitting range and an inspection process as first-party information; verify both for your order. Take every fusion parameter from the supplied fitting label and current manual.

Why Do Electrofusion Joints Fail Before the Controller Starts?

Most failed joints trace to preparation or control, not the fitting. An out-of-square cut, a patchy scrape or a contaminated surface will not recover when the controller runs. The polyethylene guidance reviewed here treats training and pre-installation examination as essential. It also warns that oil on a cutting tool can create a non-fusible barrier. These sources inform the checks, not the fusion settings.

PPR electrofusion installation has three parts: a prepared surface, a controlled cycle and a full cooling hold. Leave one to memory, and the joint has no reliable pass condition. This guide turns those parts into eight checks a supervisor can see and a buyer can require in a method statement and purchase order.

Which Eight Checks Decide Whether a Joint Will Pass?

Decision flow diagram titled Electrofusion Joint Inspection with three numbered steps: Match, Prepare, and Fuse, each with brief instructions and Buyer Check labels, ending with a supplier confirmation note.

A step tells the installer what to do. A check defines the condition that must exist before the next task starts. Each check below has a pass condition you can observe and record. Use them as the spine of your PPR electrofusion installation method statement. If a joint fails a check, stop and correct it before the next task.

Check 1: Is This the Right Fitting for This Pipe?

Start the PPR joint with identity. Confirm the pipe and fitting share the same system, size and pressure class. Check the label against the drawing and purchase order. DESO’s PPR fitting range page provides system context as a first-party claim; confirm the exact electrofusion item for your order. If the project uses socket fusion instead, review the socket fusion welder as the alternative method. Pass condition: the fitting label, size and pressure class match the line list; the fitting is clean and undamaged; the storage record is within the supplier’s stated limits.

Check 2: Is the Pipe End Square and Round?

The cut sets the fusion band, so it is the first physical control on the PPR joint. An out-of-square cut leaves an uneven band. An oval end can push the fitting off centre. Use a clean cutting tool free of oil or lubricant. Oil can create a non-fusible barrier, and a dirty blade can smear it into the cut face. Hold a square against the cut face and sight along the pipe for roundness. Re-round an oval end before marking. Pass condition: a square held across the cut face shows no visible gap, and the round end accepts the fitting by hand without force.

Check 3: Is the Insertion Depth Marked?

Mark the insertion depth before scraping or cleaning; the mark is the reference for every later step on the PPR joint. Take the depth from the fitting label or current manual. Draw a continuous line around the pipe at the full depth. The mark must survive scraping and cleaning, because it shows when the pipe is fully seated. If preparation removes it, restore it and re-check the depth. Pass condition: a continuous mark sits at the full insertion depth, remains legible after surface preparation, and the pipe can reach it without guessing.

Check 4: Is the Whole Fusion Zone Scraped?

Full-zone scraping is the surface control for the PPR joint. The oxide layer must come off across the whole fusion band, not only the dull areas. Use a scraper intended for plastic pipe. Do not use an angle grinder; rapid heating can cause secondary oxidation and leave an uneven surface. Work around the pipe in consistent passes. Stop when the band is uniform, with no shiny original surface or skipped strip. Pass condition: the full marked band has a uniform scraped finish, with no shiny patch or skipped area visible.

Check 5: Is the Surface Clean and Dry?

Cleaning protects the prepared surface from contamination during the PPR joint. Scraping leaves dust, and handling leaves grease. Either can sit between pipe and fitting and prevent a sound joint. Clean the scraped zone and the fitting socket with a suitable agent on a lint-free cloth. Let the agent evaporate completely. Do not touch the cleaned surface with bare hands, used gloves or a rag from another task. Cover the joint if the site is dusty or wet. Pass condition: the pipe zone and fitting socket are visibly free of dust, grease, moisture and cloth fibres, with no wet film left by the agent.

Check 6: Is the Joint Aligned and Stress-Free?

Alignment keeps mechanical load out of the PPR joint. Insert the pipe to the mark without tilting; a tilted pipe loads one side of the fusion zone and can push the fitting out of line. Fit a clamp or alignment fixture that holds pipe and fitting straight. Keep it in place through the cooling hold. Do not lift, tap or load the joint while it cools. Pass condition: the pipe is seated at the mark, a straightedge laid along pipe and fitting shows no tilt, and the clamp remains engaged through the hold.

Check 7: Do the Parameters Match the Fitting Label?

The fitting label is the parameter source for the PPR joint. The controller reads and records data; it is not the authority. Before you start, compare every displayed value with the fitting label. Confirm the power supply and controller conditions required by the manual. For a fitting with two fusion sides, fuse each side as the label directs. DESO’s production and marking controls are described as a first-party claim; verify the label and manual revision supplied with your order. Pass condition: the controller display matches the fitting label field for field, and the manual revision on site matches the current revision supplied for that fitting.

Check 8: Has the Joint Cooled Fully Before Handling?

Cooling is the final control point on a PPR joint. It is a hold period with a defined end, not a pause. Take the required cooling time from the fitting label and current manual. Keep the clamp on and leave the joint undisturbed until the hold ends. Do not pressure test, tap, bend or backfill during the hold. Movement before the hold ends is a known cause of leaks. After the hold, inspect the joint, record the result and release it to the next task. Pass condition: the label-specified hold has ended on the record, the clamp is still fitted at that point, and the record shows no handling before release.

What Should a Buyer Put in the Purchase Order?

The PPR order becomes enforceable when it names the evidence. Add these clauses before the first fitting ships:

  • Exact system and pressure class. Name the pipe family, fitting family, size and pressure class.
  • Manual revision. Require the revision that applies to the supplied fitting.
  • Parameter source. Require a legible label or barcode on every fitting.
  • Controller compatibility in writing. Require a statement for the exact controller and fitting you will use.
  • Training or briefing. Define the form and name who must attend.
  • Inspection record format. Require the record the site must return.
  • Defect responsibility. Agree how a product defect is separated from an installation defect.
  • Trial allowance. State who supplies fittings for trial joints and operator qualification.

What Should a Distributor Stock With the Fittings?

Sell electrofusion as a system, not a fitting with accessories. A PPR electrofusion installation needs the items that make the checks pass:

  • Scrapers and re-rounding tools.
  • Lint-free cloth and a suitable cleaning agent.
  • Marking tools.
  • Clamps and alignment aids for the sizes you sell.
  • A controller and reliable power access.
  • Spare fittings for trial joints and operator qualification.
  • The current manual and fitting-specific parameter cards.

DESO's tools and accessories page covers this product category as a first-party claim; confirm current availability and specification for the sizes you stock. A system sale gives the contractor a way to perform every check.

What Should the Handover Record Contain?

Three-step electrofusion joint inspection guide with teal panels: Before cycle, During cycle and After cycle, each labelled Buyer check, plus a simplified illustration note.

One page, one joint. A PPR electrofusion installation record must let a third party trace the joint back to the batch and forward to the pressure test. Include:

  • Joint ID and location.
  • Pipe and fitting identity, including batch or label reference.
  • Installer and date.
  • Controller data for the cycle.
  • Parameter source.
  • Confirmation that the full cooling hold was observed.
  • Visual inspection result.
  • Pressure-test reference.
  • Any rework, and the reason.

DESO's quality inspection page describes inspection and batch-record practice as a first-party claim; confirm the current format for your order. A controller printout is not the whole record. It does not prove the pipe was prepared or held.

What Else Should a Buyer Ask About Electrofusion Joints?

Can You Judge a Joint by Looking at It?

No. A visual check can find a tilted fitting, a missing mark or an unprepared surface. It cannot prove the fusion zone was fully scraped or that the joint will hold pressure. Use visual inspection as one gate, then rely on the pressure test and the record. A joint that looks clean can still have a skipped scrape.

Does a Completed Controller Cycle Mean the Joint Passed?

No. The cycle record shows the controller ran the fitting data it was given. It does not show that the pipe end was square, the zone was scraped or the joint cooled undisturbed. Treat the cycle as one input, not the acceptance decision. The full PPR check set, not the cycle alone, supports acceptance.

Should You Buy Fittings and the Controller From the Same Supplier?

Not automatically. Buy on written support, not on a bundle. Ask for a compatibility statement for the exact fitting and controller, the current manual and a clear parameter source. One supplier can simplify the paperwork, but only with documents specific to your order. A bundle without those documents does not give you the evidence you need.

What Should You Do Before the First Joint?

Supervision decides whether PPR electrofusion installation meets the method statement. Write the eight checks into that statement before the first joint. Name who signs each pass condition and attach the completed record to the line list. Then make a trial joint and confirm the record captures every result.

For a project review, send DESO the pipe and fitting system, the applicable manual revision and your inspection requirement. DESO will review the documents against the joint you intend to make. Use the OEM and private-label documentation page for custom or private-label requests.
