A PPR pipe supplier is only as good as its evidence. Each question carries an artifact: scope table, production list, certificate, batch record, test plan, packing spec, capacity statement, tooling schedule, claims procedure and sample control sheet. DESO publishes product scope and inspection process. Treat those pages as first-party claims and confirm scope, certificate coverage and records for your order.

Why Does a Supplier Checklist Start With Your Own Requirement?

An enquiry that says “PPR pipe, best price” gives a supplier nothing to answer.

A checklist starts with your scope because every later answer is measured against it. That page is what you score each PPR pipe supplier against.

What Should You Define Before You Contact a Supplier?

Write down the application, product family, diameter range and pressure class, quantity, destination market, documents and delivery basis. Add installation conditions if they affect the specification, and any private-label requirement. Include the standards or approvals your market expects, named as your importer names them. Say whether the order is a trial, a repeat or a project schedule, because that changes what the supplier must hold for you. Keep it to one page. Name the person who will approve the order. That page becomes the input to all ten questions, so every PPR pipe supplier on your shortlist answers the same brief. A reply that ignores the pressure class or the market documents is not a cheaper offer. It answers a different question.

What Are the 10 Questions That Reveal a Real Supplier?

Decision flow diagram titled PPR Pipe Supplier Checklist showing three steps: Define scope, Verify source, and Agree order, each labeled Buyer Check, with arrows connecting them.

Ask all ten in writing. Each question ends with the artifact to request.

1. What Exactly Is Your Product Scope?

A PPR pipe supplier can say “we do PPR” and still miss your order. Ask for the family, diameter span, pressure classes, fitting range and where the range stops. Then check the sizes you buy against that boundary. DESO’s gamme de tuyaux PPR presents the family it offers; that is a first-party claim, so confirm the table covers your diameters and pressure classes. A scope that stops one size short is a gap you find at the dock.

Artifact to request: a product scope table listing families, diameter span, pressure classes and where the range ends.

2. Do You Make the Pipe You Are Quoting?

Ask which production steps happen on the supplier’s own site and which are bought in. A manufacturer can name its own steps. A trader may describe a partner. Neither is disqualifying: a trader may suit a mixed container. A maker can tie a batch record to its own line; a trader must source that record from the producer. Buying finished pipe does not disqualify a PPR pipe supplier. DESO’s manufacturing page describes its production steps; verify what applies to your order.

Artifact to request: a production-step list naming each operation, the site and that site’s address.

3. Which Certificate Covers This Exact Product?

“Do you have certificates” produces a folder. Ask which certificate, issued by whom, under which standard, covering which product, valid until when, and accepted in your destination market. Certificate scope matters: one for another family or size misses your order. Ask any PPR pipe supplier to point to the covered line. Then match the holder to the company you pay. DESO’s company page gives its background; treat it as a first-party claim and confirm the entity on the certificate and invoice.

Artifact to request: the certificate copy plus its scope page, showing holder, number, standard, covered products and expiry.

4. Can You Send the Batch Record for My Shipment?

A batch record travels with the goods. Ask for yours. It should name the material batch, the line, the production date, the in-process checks and final inspection. Ask for a completed record from an earlier shipment. Ask which fields will change for your order. A blank template is only a promise. A completed, product-specific record from a PPR pipe supplier is evidence. DESO’s page d'inspection de la qualité describes inspection stages as a first-party claim; confirm what is recorded per batch.

Artifact to request: a completed sample batch record for the same product, plus the template for your shipment.

5. What Do You Test, How Often, and What Do You Record?

Separate routine in-process checks from type tests and third-party tests. Ask what is measured, how often, on how many pieces, by which method, against which limit, and where the result is stored. A test list without frequency is a brochure. A record that says “pass” without values cannot be audited. Ask who signs off the release and what happens when a result falls outside the limit. This shows whether a PPR pipe supplier treats testing as a real process or a claim.

Artifact to request: a written test plan listing test, frequency, sample size, method, acceptance limit and record location.

6. What Is Your Packing and Marking Standard?

Packing affects whether the pipe arrives undamaged. Ask for the bundle or carton configuration, end protection, stack height, label content, length marking and the loading pattern. Ask for the packing specification, not a photo of a pallet. The label should connect a bundle to a batch. If your market has labeling rules, state them. A PPR pipe supplier should confirm them in writing. A photo shows one good day. A packing spec gives you a standard to inspect against. Ask for it before you order.

Artifact to request: the written packing specification plus a label artwork proof for your order.

7. What Is Your Real Capacity for My Order Window?

Capacity claims are easy to make and hard to check. Ask for lines, shifts, current committed load and the slot reserved for your order. Then ask what happens to that slot if a larger customer appears. Monthly tonnage from a PPR pipe supplier without a line or shift basis is a number, not a schedule. Ask how the delivery date is built: material arrival, run time, testing and packing. If a stage is outsourced, ask who runs it. Ask for the date basis in writing.

Artifact to request: a capacity statement by line and shift, with your reserved slot and the basis for the date.

8. Who Owns the Moulds for the Fittings You Supply?

Fittings may come from another production site. Ask which are made in-house, which are bought in, and who owns the moulds. Ownership shows who controls dimensions and production changes. Ask for the tooling schedule: each fitting, the mould owner, the location and who controls dimensions. DESO’s La gamme de raccords PPR presents the fittings it covers as a first-party claim; confirm whether each item is made in-house and under whose tooling. A PPR pipe supplier that outsources a fitting still owes you a clear answer.

Artifact to request: a tooling schedule listing each fitting, mould owner, production location and dimension-control owner.

9. How Do You Handle a Claim?

Ask before you need it, not after. A claims procedure should say exactly who inspects, what evidence you must send, how long the response takes, and whether the remedy is replacement, credit or repair. Ask how the last similar claim was handled. You are not looking for zero claims, but a well-described process. If a PPR pipe supplier answers “we guarantee quality”, the question is still open. A written route gives both sides a clear next step before the order. Ask who approves the remedy.

Artifact to request: the written claims procedure, with evidence requirements, response steps, remedy options and responsible role.

10. What Changes Between a Sample and a Production Order?

Samples can come from a pilot line, another lot or a hand-finished batch. Ask whether the production order will run on the same line, from the same material source, with the same settings. A sample-to-production control sheet should name the line, the material source, the settings and who signs the release. DESO’s OEM page covers private-label and documentation questions as a first-party claim; confirm how your label and documents are controlled. A sample you cannot trace to a line is a demo.

Artifact to request: a sample-to-production control sheet naming line, material source, settings and release signatory.

How Do You Score Two Suppliers on the Same Basis?

Three-step PPR pipe buyer checklist with Product, Production, and Delivery cards connected by arrows, each labeled BUYER CHECK and showing short sourcing notes.

Score every question on three columns, then compare like for like.

Answer givenEvidence attachedEvidence matches claimed scope
0 = no answer, or an answer to a different question0 = nothing attached0 = cannot be checked
1 = verbal claim only1 = a generic document, not for this product1 = partly matches
2 = specific and in writing2 = a document for this product and order2 = matches product, size and market

An unanswered question scores zero. A claim without evidence scores one. A matched artifact scores two. The PPR pipe supplier with the higher score has fewer open questions. Score scope first.

What Should You Not Accept as Proof?

  • A certificate list with no model or size scope.
  • “ISO certified” with no certificate number and no named holder.
  • A batch record that shows pass or fail with no measured values.
  • A packing photo offered in place of a packing specification.
  • A lead time with no stated basis in lines, shifts or material.
  • A sample that cannot be tied to a production line.

Each looks like proof until you ask what it covers. A certificate list shows a PPR pipe supplier holds certificates, not that your product is covered.

FAQ

Is a Trading Company Always the Wrong Choice?

No. A trader can be the right partner for a mixed container. The condition is disclosure. The document set differs. Ask who makes the goods, at which site, and whether the maker’s batch and test records will travel with the shipment. If not, you are buying a promise, not a record.

Does a Certificate Cover Every Size You Buy?

No. A certificate has a scope, and the scope names products, sizes or a range. Check every item on your purchase list against that scope page, then check the standard is accepted in your destination market. If one size falls outside the scope, ask what document covers it.

How Many Suppliers Should You Score?

Two or three. Two gives a comparison. Three gives a fallback if one reply is late. Use the same questions, order and brief. More suppliers add time unless you score every reply on the same sheet. One gives you no benchmark. Consistency matters more than volume.

What Is the Next Step?

Send your scope, destination market, quantity and documents to each supplier, and ask for written answers to all ten. Do not accept a price alone. A PPR pipe supplier that answers seven questions with artifacts is easier to trust than one that answers all ten with adjectives. Use the scores to choose one for a sample order.
